- What is a process server?
A process server is a professional who delivers legal documents to the relevant person or organisation and records the steps taken. They may be instructed where personal service is required, where there is a deadline or where clear evidence of service is needed.
- How much does a process server cost?
Standard service costs £100 + VAT and includes up to three attempts at personal service, electronic service where applicable and a statement of service.
Priority service costs £120 + VAT and includes a first attempt within 24 hours.
Same-day service costs £140 + VAT and includes a same-day first attempt.
- What is included in the standard process serving fee?
Standard service includes up to three attempts at personal service, electronic service where applicable and a statement of service. Where a court has directed a particular method of service, please provide the direction with the documents so we can review the instruction.
- What information do I need to provide?
Please send the documents, the service address or known contact details, the required deadline and any relevant court directions. Useful information about access, business hours, known routines or safety considerations can also help us assess the instruction.
- Can documents be served by email or another electronic method?
Electronic service may be available where it is applicable, authorised and consistent with the relevant rules or court directions. Please provide any agreement, court order or direction concerning electronic service when you send your instruction.
- What happens if I need to cancel?
A cancellation charge of £50 + VAT applies if papers have already been printed. The full fee applies if the process server is already travelling to the service address when cancellation is requested.
- Will I receive proof that documents have been served?
Yes, Assist provides a statement of service once service has taken place. The statement records relevant details of the service and can support the instructing party’s records or any court filing requirements.
- Does a document always need to be personally served?
No, the appropriate method depends on the document, procedural rules and any court directions. Civil Procedure Rules, for example, allow several methods for serving a claim form, including personal service, post, delivery to a permitted address and electronic service where permitted.
- What documents can a process server serve?
Assist can arrange service for family court orders, divorce papers, claim forms, statutory demands, bankruptcy petitions, witness summonses and other legal documents. We also offer trace enquiries where the intended recipient’s current address is unknown, incomplete or out of date.
- Can you arrange urgent or same-day process serving?
Priority service includes a first attempt within 24 hours, while same-day service includes a same-day first attempt. Availability depends on the time we receive the instruction, the address, the documents and the required method of service.
